[12/2025] Interested in aviation operations research but confused on where to find data and their coverage of flights? We report an inventory of flight event and surveillance data sources spanning the US Department of Transportation, Federal Aviation Administration and third party sources.
[4/2025] Updating airport surface layout GIS data on taxiways, apron areas and runways can be time consuming. Tomek Gradzki created the Airport Layout Updator to use airplane surveillance movement to automatically update airport surfaces based with widths based on aircraft fleets and FAA design guidelines. [6/2023] Congrats to Sam Alsalous on his accepted Transportation Research Record publication on parsing deicing times at Chicago-O'hare Airport (ORD) using ASDE-X data. This research helps aid in determining capacities of airport deicing lanes and facilities. You can access the publication here.

Airspace restrictions, such as those around airports, will increase flight distances and costs for Urban Air Mobility customers.
